Thiis is the one that is going byebye. Or not.
And I really like this painting. there were many happy moments and pleasant surprises that happened when I did it earlier this year. Or late last year. Hell, I can't remember. I just know it has made me mucho happier than a lot of stuff I have done. Well, letting go is an art in itself. Really.
White horses and I...
After a long ponder, and some advice from a friend, I decided to give my first white horse oeuvre to the Art for Life Auction this year. Now I love my paintings. I suppose I know that the whole object is to sell them so some lovely person out there in the big bad world will have something delightful to gaze at every day. But I will really miss my first white horse, if it sells, that is. It is possible that I will be able to attend the event, sip mineral water and gnosh on chichi munchies, check out all the OTHER art, and the other artists, hobnob with the rich folks who love art and attend with the hopes of getting some, cheap, and still come home with my beloved painting. This is not it, by the way, this is one that I added to the opus to replace the one I am donating. And it is unlikely I will bring anything home, mine or otherwise. I have, after all, sold my piece now for four years running, and I am somewhat proud of that, as that does not happen to all the artists who donate. Somewhere out there, there are four folks who have an original painting by MOI on their wall. That is kind of sweet, yes. Whatever, it is not til September, and I have time to knock out a few more white horses.

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...
Friday in the little yellow house. I started to post this, then realized it was looking a little flat and a lot messy, so I straightened that out. Now have an opus of koi. Working on my white horse opus, next. Really, I need to get more instructions, work on my STYLE, which is, as always, elusive as hell. I was reading about IMPORTANT art, RELEVANT art, in other words, New York art. Apparently, it should reflect our culture, make social statements, be edgy and cutting. In other words, UGLY. Drab, colorless, depressing and downright bizarre. I don't even want to look at that art, much less create it. I have been depressed for many of my years here on the Big Blue Ball. I don't need reminders of that darkness hanging on my walls. Okay, fish are remarkably prosaic. Ditto birds, horses, cows. Tigers, lynx and lions are a little more jazzy. Still, I am refreshed by these paintings. My soul feels lightened up, just knowing there are these wondrous creatures in the world. I look at my egret every day, all curled into itself, that look of infinite knowing in its eye, refreshing. Yes, that's me. Little old prosaic me, just wanting some wonder and beauty, some that I made myself.

this is what we do when daddy plays golf.
Sunday was just a weird day in general because we didn't get up and go to church in the morning. Our friend was still visiting so we slept in and spent the morning hours talking and drinking coffee. Which we never do (well, except for the drinking coffee part...Hubs + Me = Addicts). Then we said goodbye to our friend, watched the DVR'd Snooki & JWoww (don't hate), and Hubs went off golfing for the afternoon. Which he does do every Sunday. Every. Sunday.
So how do S and I spend Daddy Golfing Sundays? Photoshoots. Playing. Singing. Me not even bothering to get anything done since I now devote my hours to chasing S around the house. That girl has perfected the art of crawling at the speed of lightning. And she has a preference for the wine rack and the dog's food bowl. Let's just say she's exactly like her father :)

summer bucket list.
It's Monday, and I think we all need a little something to make the day better.
Sooo, even though it's almost the end of June, I'm throwing a summer bucket list out there. (Kudos to several of my bloggy friends who gave me this idea!) Now that I have S, there are so many things that I want to do with her, do as a family, and just plain do myself. I'm pretty positive that I won't get them all accomplished in just one short summer, but if I only get a few items scratched off the list, I'll be a happy mama.
1. Plop S in her stroller and spend an afternoon visiting (and walking over!) the Walkway Over The Hudson. Dallas can even come along on this one.
2. Play with S in the backyard in her new "pool". Can you believe we traded a full-size in-ground pool for a $10 plastic pool from Toys R Us? We did, and we love it. Now we have the room for a
3. Brand new swingset for S!
4. Watch the fireworks somewhere on the Fourth of July. For a baby who can sleep soundly through the noise of her very LOUD family, I sure hope she doesn't mind the bangs.
5. Have our friends take us into the city for a day. They know their way around, so we wouldn't have to take the train or worry about directions. I know she's just a baby, but I would love to take S to the Bronx Zoo.
6. Go for a run with the Hubs or go on a bicycle ride with my Dad while we're at the beach. This probably doesn't sound like much of bucket list item, but when you have an eight-month-old and you also haven't run OR hopped on a bicycle in over a year, it'll be nothing short of a miracle if I last five minutes.
7. Take a family photo on the beach. You know, one of those where everyone is wearing white shirts and khakis. Somewhat pretentious, yet classy.
8. Attempt to sell some of the baby/little girl headbands and hair clips that I've made.
9. Finally watch The Hunger Games movie with my sister when it comes out on Blue-Ray. (Almost through the last book...if you haven't read them yet, you need to.)
10. Hold my newborn nephew/niece in a few weeks when he/she decides to make an appearance. Remember what it's like to hold a baby that small. Possibly start to think about a sibling for S...
I could've probably listed ten more, but I'll spare you the agony. Have your own bucket list? Link up in the comments!

a pick me up.
I won't give you more
More than you can take
And I might let you bend
But I won't let you break
And know that I won't ever let you go
Don't you forget what He said.
{Lyrics by Group 1 Crew - "He Said"}
I love this song and its message of truth. It's really like a breath of fresh air in an every day life of busyness and craziness. And I always find that it plays on XM in my car at the best times. When I'm tired or don't want to run to another store or preoccupied about something that's probably not even significant compared to what some people are dealing with. God is always with you and watching out for you, and He's not going to let you crash and burn. You'll pull through, with His help.
Wanna see the rest of the lyrics to this song? Check 'em out here.
Love all you guys!
All my troubles, Lord, soon forgotten...
Well, I got sick. And though it seemed impossible not so long ago, I am getting well, again, too. Not as springy as I used to be, and, because my appetite dropped out of existence, I was hella weak for a bit. All this is hella scary when you live alone, like I do. Both dogs survived, even the tomato plant still has life in it. And the world kept right on turning. Now, onward. I framed the tiger, and, for a quick and rather sketchy piece (on very dramatic black paper), he is really fine now. I'm calling him "Burning Bright", and he may be the choice to go to Art for Life. Or not. Really, I surprise myself , all the time. I finish these paintings, put them away for a while, and it is as if I have never seen them before, and someone else did them. Well, Someone Else did, held my hand and pushed it around. Life is just one big surprise, you know.

high five for friday.
It's Friday. Yay. Congrats on making it through yet another week! (No small feat.)
This weekend one of our best friends from college is visiting us. He's moving across the country to CA at the end of the month to start his job with Apple (yes, I knowww, Apple! he's one smart cookie. not that we're looking to get in on any of his employee discounts or anything.) So this weekend will be the last time we'll get to spend with him for a while. Should be nothing short of epic.

Some of the best things about life this past week:
(1) Going for walks as a family when the Hubs arrived home from work. Beats taking both the kids (baby and furry) out by myself during the day. Even though I do love me some Baby Bjorn.
(2) Giving Dallas his puppy ice cream on hot 95-degree days.
(3) S getting better at sleeping during the night. Only having to wake up with her two times is working wonders for this mama. Four straight hours of sleep! Bliss. You'd think I have a newborn again or something.
(4) Getting the entire house cleaned on Tuesday. Seeing as I hate cleaning and I usually force myself into it toward the end of the week, shining floors on Tuesday made the rest of the week feel amazing. Like I actually accomplished something. Don't you wish you could keep the house in that spotless condition for at least two weeks? I do. Because with a dog, a crawling baby, and a husband that refuses to take off his shoes, my spotless lasts about five hours.
(5) Random play sessions with Daddy. In the living room. Michelin Man leg rolls, tippy-toes, and all.

pinnings, lately.
In honor of today being the first day of summer (yay!) and therefore the longest day of the year, I'm dedicating my pinterest finds to all things warm weather. Or, more correctly, hot weather...today the heat index is clocking in at 105 degrees F. Yikes, it's a scorcer out there. Thank goodness for central air and iced coffees.
Happy Wednesday! Enjoy the sun staying up for approx 15 hours today :)

how I ended up BFFs with the old church ladies.
Every Monday S and I spend a few hours in the afternoon at our church's crafts group. Originally I started to go because I wanted to learn how to knit so I could make sweaters and things for S. Well, while I was pretty good at knitting, I wasn't so good at practicing during the week so I could actually learn how to make something.
Anyway, since S was born, I dress her up with a headband each Sunday. With all the other babies at our church being boys (she has a lot of boyfriends), of course she became somewhat of a baby fashion icon. One second through the door and everyone wants to see what S is wearing today!
I figured out (with the help of this tutorial here) how to make my own headbands...and once those crafts group ladies heard about that, there was no turning back. I was officially recruited to design headbands and hair clips for the annual church bazaar. I actually had a talent. That was noticed! I get to spend a few hours out of the house, holding a conversation with someone other than the man who bags my groceries. Plus, how could I say no to the nicest bunch of grandmas? And church grandmas at that. I know.
Which leads us to the ladies of the crafts group. Who are all over 50. And with the exception of two, they really are all over 75. Throw me and S in the mix and suddenly S has ten new grandmas. She loves it. They love her. They even pitched in together to buy S her own Jeep walker. I think my baby just made crafts group the cool club at church.

happy father's day, dad.
Proud daddy...
I hope you enjoy your very first Father's Day as a grandpa. I absolutely love watching you with S, to see that look of complete love on your face for my little girl. She loves you, too. Her baby face lights up into a smile the moment she sees you, and somehow her new favorite word is "paw-paw". She's been babbling it ever since we came home from the beach.
I can't thank you enough for all the things you've done for me and taught me over the years. Preparing me for who I am today and thankful for every right decision I made because of you, that got me here. (Even though I gave you a hard time and mostly thought that everything you made me do was so not right.) And just look at all those years we have ahead of us to enjoy family, together.
I always get SO proud when I think how lucky I am that God decided to make you my dad. Smart, funny, caring, responsible, loving. Look at this amazing life you made for yourself and mom, and for me and M. And now you get to spend it with all of us, making memories. Thank you for being you and showing me how to live life.
I love you Dads!
Almost five years later...even prouder grandpa!
