Info Post

Welcome to Week #5 of the On My Mind blog hop series!
You guys shared some seriously fab posts last week. I can't wait to read about what's taking over your hearts {or possibly your lives} this time around :)

----------

For me, this week is about something that's been growing in my heart since the holiday season began.

Giving.

Now, I absolutely LOVE giving gifts to others for Christmas. Family, friends, and of course this year I practically want to buy every toy under the sun for S just to see the look on her face when she dives into the wrapping paper. But with all of my holiday shopping done {thank you, Black Friday and the internet} and that dang thing called a budget looming over my head, my holiday shopping is over.

Or...is it? It didn't have to be over, right? Because I was forgetting about one really important part of Christmas...buying gifts for those who otherwise wouldn't be getting anything.

My first though was, could our measly budget sustain the extra spending? Then I smacked myself {literally} for being so selfish. Come on. We're not poor. We're not living paycheck to paycheck. We're not unemployed. We can afford higher expenses for one month out of the year if it means that we'll be putting smiles on a family's faces.
On little children's faces.

Which brings me to my exciting news...

The lovely Amanda, who blogs at Life, Experience Needed, was looking for co-hosts to help her with an awesome event she was planning, Cans For Comments. {Read about the event, and how to participate, HERE.}

Cans For Comments is a fundraiser to help support our local food banks during the high-need holiday and winter season. My job as a co-host is to donate specific items based on how many comments and/or new followers I receive during the event's run time.

So here's what I came up with. Cans For Comments will run from December 7-15.
{Comments and/or new follows MUST be within this time frame to count toward my donation.}

----------

For every 5 comments I will donate one can of food.
For every 20 comments, I will donate one toy or clothing item.
For every 5 new followers {can be via GFC, Bloglovin', Facebook, or Twitter} I will donate $1.
*Please leave me a comment letting me know if you are a new follower and how you are following.*

All cans of food will be donated to my local food bank and all toys will be donated to Toys For Tots or to my church's Angel Tree program {each star on the tree has a toy/clothing item listed for a specific child in need & we choose several stars to buy for}. All money raised will be donated to my local animal shelter, Pets Alive. {Because animals need warm beds and food too!}

----------

Pretty cool, huh? I'm SUPER excited to get this event up and running. And to see how many cans of food, dollars, and toys you all can help me raise for families and children in need this Christmas.

We'd also like to challenge YOU to participate! Even if it's only for one day during the event. You can set your own goal at whatever you'd like {cans, money, toys, your choice}. They'll be a link up open after the event is over, so you can come back and join us! Remember, it benefits YOUR local community :)

We only ask that if you decide to participate, you grab our button and help us spread the word.
