happy birthday to us. and a winner!

28 years ago today I was born. At 11 AM in a country-ish, average town in Pennslyvania. Five weeks early but it was the day God picked for me to meet the world (you'll see why in a moment). Two hours earlier in an average New York town, a boy was born. Right on schedule. Two moms in hospitals at the same time, welcoming their new babies.

They never would've guessed that their babies born on the same day would grow up, attend the same college (and accounting classes), meet up in a bar (accountants actually are fun people), and get married.

We really weren't even supposed to BE at a bar that night. It was Friday and the boy had tried to make the three-hour trek home earlier, only to turn around after sitting in traffic for an hour+. I, on the other hand, never visited bars on Fridays in the fall.

Why would a normal college girl ever say this, you ask?

I happened to have a soccer game to play in every Saturday. And if you didn't know, all college varsity players have to abide (at least when I was in school) by the NCAA's rule of no alcohol 48-hours before any game.

Why do you think college bars have a HUGE Thursday night crowd?

Anyway. So there we were. At a dive bar on a Friday. I was with this guy who kept buying me drinks, the boy was drinking with his friend trying to make up for not making it home. 

Boy asks me, is that your boyfriend?

I say, no. Don't have a boyfriend.

Boy looks like he's hit the jackpot. Me, I'm just happy not to be paying for any of my drinks. (Although that viewpoint would obviously change over the course of the next month.)

And the rest is history.
