Every Monday S and I spend a few hours in the afternoon at our church's crafts group. Originally I started to go because I wanted to learn how to knit so I could make sweaters and things for S. Well, while I was pretty good at knitting, I wasn't so good at practicing during the week so I could actually learn how to make something.
Anyway, since S was born, I dress her up with a headband each Sunday. With all the other babies at our church being boys (she has a lot of boyfriends), of course she became somewhat of a baby fashion icon. One second through the door and everyone wants to see what S is wearing today!
I figured out (with the help of this tutorial here) how to make my own headbands...and once those crafts group ladies heard about that, there was no turning back. I was officially recruited to design headbands and hair clips for the annual church bazaar. I actually had a talent. That was noticed! I get to spend a few hours out of the house, holding a conversation with someone other than the man who bags my groceries. Plus, how could I say no to the nicest bunch of grandmas? And church grandmas at that. I know.
Which leads us to the ladies of the crafts group. Who are all over 50. And with the exception of two, they really are all over 75. Throw me and S in the mix and suddenly S has ten new grandmas. She loves it. They love her. They even pitched in together to buy S her own Jeep walker. I think my baby just made crafts group the cool club at church.
how I ended up BFFs with the old church ladies.
