Info Post
So I have to say that we're in a tough place at the moment with our finances. Tough to us, anyway...because we're by no means poor or on the verge of losing our house, thank goodness. But tough in a way that is a little scary for two people who've always had a cushion-y amount of savings. Thanks to those new garage doors (which in hindsight we should've waited on), I cannot, for the first time since I was 16, pay off my credit card bill in full.

Ugh. And I hate paying interest. Bye-bye awesome near-perfect credit score.

Now Hubs and I have always been ones to evaluate our purchases. We've always bought what we needed or wanted (within reason). So this occurrence has thrown us for a loop.

Which got me thinking about what God has to say about money and budgeting.

Hubs found a great website that lists 250 Bible verses about money. It has tons of other personal finance topics that are centered around the Christian faith, like how to make money with a blog (which I also need to read up on).

Most of us probably don't think of referencing the Bible when it comes to money issues, so I thought it'd be interesting to list some of the verses I found helpful.

"The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenty; but the thoughts of everyone who is hasty only to poverty."
{Proverbs 21:5}

"For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he may have enough to finish it; lest perhaps, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all those seeing begin to mock him, saying, This man began to build and was not able to finish."
{Luke 14:28-30}

"On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come."
{1 Corinthians 16:2}

"Prepare your work outside and make it ready for yourself in the field; afterwards, then, build your house."
{Proverbs 24:27}

The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord."
{Proverbs 16:1}

"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches."
{Proverbs 24:3-4}

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!"
{Matthew 7:11}

That last verse is my favorite. Basically it's saying that if you believe in the Lord and pray to Him concerning your issues, He will give to you what you ask. Now I know it's really not that black and white, you can't just ask God for anything and presto! it miraculously appears. But the God who loves us will not ignore us in our times of need.

As for us, instead of asking God for more money and less bills, we need to work on managing the money we DO have. Focus on cutting out the non-essential items for a while. Who's ready for a thrifting challenge?
